Barefoot Babies

Barefoot Babies by Sarah Baines

I know, I know…. as we head into winter it’s not the ideal time to be thinking of our little ones going barefoot, but it is always the right time to be thinking about the shoes we put them in.

Whilst the research is still thin on the ground it is becoming evident that barefoot time is essential to little developing feet.

Children need barefoot experience to help encourage their bony and soft tissue structures to develop into optimal positioning and it is really important for their balance and motor skills too.

Children do need to wear shoes in the winter to keep their feet warm. Go for shoes with wide toe boxes and flexible soles so that your child’s feet can move as close to naturally as possible.

Can barefoot help you too?

In many cases yes. However if you have been wearing conventional shoes for many years we suggest you start with a few barefoot hours around the house or garden first.
